About International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade
Every year March 25 is observed as International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. This day is observed to honour and remember those who suffered and died as a consequence of the transatlantic slave trade, which has been called “the worst violation of human rights in history”. This day is also aims to raise awareness about the dangers of racism and prejudice today.
On December 17, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly designated March 25 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade was first observed in 2008.
