Every year June 20 is observed as World Refugee Day. This day is observed to raise awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.
On 4 December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed to observe every year June 20 as World Refugee Day. The day was first observed on 20 June 2001.
Activities and Programs on the Day
Different programs are conducted across the world to mark this day. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other organizations conduct different events on this day to raise awareness about the day. Social media campaigns are tagged with #WithRefugees.
United Nations Refugee Agency, governments, celebrities, nonprofit organizations, NGOs, other national and regional organizations are conducting many programs to support this event. This observation is marked in over 100 countries.
