What is Common Admission Test (CAT)?
Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all India entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) for admissions in various management programs. All IIMs and many top business schools in India are accepting the CAT score for their admissions. More than 2 lakh students attempt this exam every year.
Colleges Accepts CAT Score
All IIMs accepts CAT score for their admission to management courses. Other than IIMs main B Schools also accepts CAT score as their prerequisites in their admission process. Some of them includes S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Management Development Institute (Gurgaon), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), International Management Institute (IMI), National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) , etc.
When CAT is conducted?
CAT is conducted once in a year. The following are some information about the month. Please follow media advertisement or CAT website for correct dates. The dates given below are for informative purpose and are tentative dates.
Opening date for Online Application Forms: Beginning of August
Closing date for Online Application Forms: September
Date of Download of Admit Card: From October to Exam Date
Exam Date: November
Results declaration: January (next year)
The dates for CAT 2019 were as follows:
Opening date for Online Application Forms: 7 August, 2019
Closing date for Online Application Forms: 18 September, 2019 (Extended to 25 September, 2019)
Date of Download of Admit Card: From 23 October, 2019 to 24 November, 2019
Exam Date: 24 November, 2019 (Sunday)
Results Announced: Second Week of January, 2020
Eligibility Criteria to attend CAT 2019
Basic eligibility to attend CAT exam is Bachelor Degree in any discipline from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC, ST and PWD).
Candidates who completed professional degree (CA / CS / ICWA) with required percentage are also eligible for apply.
Candidates appearing for the final year examination of bachelor Degree Examination may also apply. Such candidates has to produce the mark list at later stages of the admission procedure.
There is no age limit for applying to CAT exam.
Candidates are requested to verify their eligibility before applying with official announcement.
Application Fees for CAT 2019
The application fee could be pay in different modes includes net banking, debit card, credit card, NEFT, ect.
CAT Registration or Application fees for CAT 2019 were as follows:
General / NC-OBC candidates – Rs. 1900/-
SC / ST / PWD (DA) – Rs. 950/-
How to Apply for CAT 2019?
Candidates are required to apply online through official website: http://www.iimcat.ac.in. The application was a three step process includes CAT registration, filling the application form, and paying the application fee.
Shortlisting and Admission Process in IIMs
The method and criteria for shortlisting vary from IIM to IIM. IIMs shortlist candidate separately and send interview letters.
The admission process is also different for IIM to IIM. The admission process of an IIM may include Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). IIMs also consider CAT score for admission purpose. They may also consider previous academic performances like marks obtained in 10th, 12th, graduation level and relevant work experience.
