About World Oceans Day
Every year June 8th is observed as World Ocean Day. Even though it is celebrated from 1992 onward. It was officially recognized by United Nations in late 2008.
The observance is made to honor, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans. The day also aims to raise awareness about importance of oceans and the role it play in sustaining a healthy planet.
Activities and Programs on this Day
There were many programs and events conducted on World Ocean Day. Some programs includes special events at aquariums and zoos, aquatic and beach clean-up, educational programs, art contests and exhibitions, film shows, sustainable sea food events, launching new campaigns and initiatives, etc. Each year the observation and events are based on a theme selected for the year.
