Basic Information about World Food Safety Day
World Food Safety Day is an annual event observed on every year June 7 by World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of safe food and to ensure the safe food to every consumer.

About World Food Safety Day
By understanding the importance of safe food, United Nations General Assembly in December 2018 adopted a resolution to observe every year June 7 as World Food Safety Day. The first ever observation was made on June 7, 2019. This day is observed by World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Aim of this observation is to ensure safe food for all and also to throw some light on the importance of safe food and to reduce the problems related to it.
The observation is important as an estimated nearly 600 million people in the world fall ill and 420000 die (of which 125000 are children under the age of five) every year by eating contaminated food.
Activities and Programs on Food Safety Day
Activities and programs on this day aims at promoting importance of safe food for all. Programs also highlights the importance of collective action to reduce the problems posed by unsafe food. Many institutions, organizations and individuals are getting involved in many activities on this observation. Many campaigns are conducting based on this observation to give awareness about the importance of safe food.
Food safety can only be achieved by joint effort. Governments must ensure the supply of safe food, agriculture and food producers must adopt more sustainable practices, customers need to be educated about safe food and must check the details on food before buying it.
