About World Intellectual Property (IP) Day
Every year April 26 is observed as World Intellectual Property Day. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life and to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe. April 26 is the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.
The General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) decided to celebrate a day as World Intellectual Property Day (World IP Day). In 2000, WIPO established World IP Day and the first World IP Day was celebrated in the year 2001.
Activities and Programs on World Intellectual Property (IP) Day
Many programs are conducted on this day to spread the awareness about patents, copyright, trademarks and designs. Also, programs on this day aims to promote new creations and innovations. Programs are conducted on the basis of theme selected for the year. Many organizations organize social media campaigns and other campaigns to promote theme of the year.
