About World Day for Safety and Health at Work

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed on April 28 every year. This day is observed to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It is an awareness raising campaign intended to focus international attention on the magnitude of the problem and on how promoting and creating a safety and health can help reduce the number of work related deaths and injuries.

The day is more important as some facts say that young workers (15 – 24 years old) consists of more than 15 per cent of the world’s labour force suffer up to 40 per cent higher rate of non-fatal occupational injuries than adult workers (more than 25 years old).


Activities and Programs on the Day

There are many activities and programs are organized around the world by national authorities, trade unions, NGO’s to celebrate the day. The campaign aims to create a concerted and integrated approach to eliminating child labour and promoting a culture of prevention on occupational safety health (OSH).
