Getting Admission to MBA Program

Getting admission to MBA program is not difficult. but getting admission to top ranked B School for MBA or related program is difficult and competitive in nature. There is high competition to get admission to top ranked MBA colleges. You have to undergo different selection process to get admission to MBA colleges.

Selection process for admission to MBA program

Selection process and methods may be different for different B schools, but the following are some general selection process followed by B schools. B schools follow some or all of the following selection process for selecting candidates:

  1. Written Test
  2. Group Discussion (GD)
  3. Written Ability Test (WAT)
  4. Personal Interview

1. Written Test

First step in admission to MBA colleges is to participate in written test. Different tests are there to attend like CAT, MAT, CMAT, GMAT, XAT etc. These tests are conducted by different organizations and give scores to candidates.

Some colleges accept some scores and some accepts other. Depends upon which college you want to get admission, you have to attend and get the score.

To get admission to top MBA colleges you have to score high in the tests. The score must be high such that you must fall inside the cutoff score for admission in that particular MBA College.


2. Group Discussion (GD)

After having cleared cutoff percentile at MBA institute, you will be invited for group discussion. Group discussion is a modern method of assessing students’ personality. It is both a technique, an art and a comprehensive tool to judge the worthiness of the student and his appropriateness for the job or admission.

The format is like discussions in a group. The group contains 8 to 12 students who express their views freely, frankly in a friendly manner, on a topic given to the group at that time by the panelists. The time will be 20 to 30 minutes and the abilities of the members of the group are measured.


3. Written Ability Test (WAT)

Few B schools replace Group Discussion with Written Ability Test. Hence, Written Ability Test has also become a tool to test MBA aspirant on assessing overall communication skills and personality.


4. Personal Interview

After the above steps you may be called for a personal interview to further probe your suitability for that particular business school.

Most MBA program have personal interview in their section process. A personal interview aims at knowing the aspirant intimately.
