About International Human Solidarity Day
UN General Assembly on December 22, 2005 proclaimed December 20 as the International Human Solidarity Day.
The Human Solidarity Day is observed with an aim to raise awareness and show importance of solidarity in working towards eradicating poverty. It also gives an opportunity to celebrate unity in diversity. It is also a day to remind governments to respect their commitments to international agreements, aims to remind people on the importance of solidarity.
In the new sustainability development goal (SDG) agenda, importance is given to people and planet. Human rights, poverty removal, lift up people, feed the hunger, helping the diseased, etc. are all important. So the Human Solidarity day become more important.
Activities and Programs on Human Solidarity Day
Many events and programs are observed on Human Solidarity Day to promote solidarity and find innovative methods to help eradicate poverty. Activities and programs on the day aims to raise public awareness about the importance of solidarity. It also give importance to promote solidarity to achieve sustainable development goals including poverty eradication. The day reaffirms commitment of governments and organizations to international agreements and the vision.
