About UN English Language Day
Every year April 23 is UN English Language Day. In 2010 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) established this day. The observation aims to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization.
The first United Nations English Language Day was celebrated on 23 April 2010. There are around 360 – 400 million native speakers of the English language around the world.
Activities and Programs on English Language Day
Many programs and activities on this day at different levels aims to spread the importance of the day. Different Competitions like essay writing, poetry recitation, drama presentation, seminars, etc. are some of the events on this day.
Programs and activities on this day are creating interest among students to read and write English literature books on this day. This day is observed along with World Book and Copyright Day (April 23) and encourage people to read more.
People share many fun and interesting factors about English language to mark this day. Thus, this day gives an opportunity for students to come out with creative class room activities.
