About World Development Information Day
On December 19, 1972, the United Nations General Assembly decided to observe World Development Information Day on October 24 along with United Nations Day. The Day aims to draw attention of people worldwide to development problems and to explain to the general public why it is necessary to strengthen international cooperation to find ways to solve these problems. The first Development Information Day was observed on October 24, 1973.
The date coincides with the date of United Nations Day, October 24. It is the date of the adoption of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade in 1970.
Activities and Programs on Development Information Day
Now a day’s modern information technology such as Internet and mobile phones etc. are using widely to alert people and finding solutions to problems of trade and development. Programs are conducted to raise awareness about the problems of development particularly among young people to promote international cooperation for development.
Other programs include direct campaigns through advertisements in print and visual media, posters etc. Media is used to spread the message of development problems and explain public about importance of international cooperation to solve these problems.
