Career in Chemical Engineering

Introduction to Career in Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering has great significant in these days of scientific development. Here we discuss about career in chemical engineering.

What is Chemical Engineering?

Chemical Engineering involves the design and maintenance of chemical plants and the development of chemical processes for converting raw materials or chemicals into valuable forms including those to remove chemicals from waste materials, to enable large-scale manufacture.

This branch of engineering includes varied field of engineering and chemistry.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Chemical Engineer

The work role of chemical engineers varies as per the role they play in the industry. They design and operate chemical plants and improve methods of production. The works include the invention, development, design, operation and management of processes in industries.

Educational Qualification Required

Minimum qualification to become chemical engineer is a graduate degree (B.E. / B. Tech) in engineering. The scope is more with higher qualifications like M. Tech and PhD.

Skills and Knowledge Required for Career in Chemical Engineering

A person who want to become a chemical engineer must have interest to work with chemicals.

A good chemical engineer must have different skills like analytical skills, problem solving skills, adaptability to new and changing concepts, communication skills, presentation skills, ability to work under pressure and stress, etc.

How to become a Chemical Engineer?

To become a chemical engineer one has to opt for science stream with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) in 10 + 2 or equivalent examination. After that he / she has to get bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) and further can go for a post graduate degree and Ph. D in engineering. The entrance to B. E / B. Tech or M. E / M. Tech are through different entrance exams (like JEE and GATE) conducted by different organizations or engineering colleges.

Where do I get the Job?

Job opportunities are available in various fields of chemical industry, mineral industry, polymer industry, petrochemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, etc. The job opportunities are available both in public sector and private sector.
