About World Science Day for Peace and Development

At a general conference in 2001, UNESCO established the World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD) through a proclamation. This was done after the recommendation from the World Conference on Science in Budapest in 1999. It was first observed on 10 November 2002.

This day also known as World science Day. The observation aim to raise awareness of the benefits of science worldwide.

The purpose of the WSDPD is to renew the national, as well as the international commitment to science for peace and development and to stress the responsible use of science for the benefit of society. It also aims to raise awareness of the importance of science and to bridge the gap between science and societies.


Activities and Programs on World Science Day

This day is observed around the world with many activities and programs. Some programs are classroom discussions on importance of science and technology in one’s life, exhibitions and seminars to explain the importance, etc.

Governmental, non-governmental organizations, scientific research institutions, schools, universities, professional associations are organizing different programs to celebrate World Science Day. Social media campaign includes a hashtag #ScienceDay
