About International Day of Families

Every year May 15 is observed as International Day of Families. This UN Day is observed to spread the importance of families, promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.

In 1993 United Nations General Assembly proclaimed to observe every year May 15 as International Day of Families.


Activities and Programs on International Day of Families

Many programs and events are conducted across the world by different communities. NGOs, companies, religious organizations, local bodies, etc. are conducting different programs to mark this day. The programs include seminars, exhibitions, workshops, discussions, family get-together, etc.

The day is celebrated with an aim to discuss on various factors and importance of family in sustainable development of society. The day also emphasize on practices to maintain a balance in work and life of parents.

Spending time together in families is important in the celebration. Families can arrange programs which aims to spend time together on this day.
